*WHAT'S HAPPENING ON
THE RIVER* |
|
June 30.
OK. Where do we start? Peregrine Falcons: The two or three "chicks"
have fledged. We see them occasionally on the edge of the rock w/mom or dad. I
read up on them today and they are dependent on their parents for about two
months. Unfortunately, a mortality rate of greater than 50% in the first year.
Ospreys: Lots of babies. We are seeing them starting to flap their wings,
catching air. They'll be flying fairly soon and then we'll see many ospreys in
the air!
Eagles: Nott island two fledglings, we have not seen them lately, but, we've
seen mom and/or dad in the trees on the mainland nearby pretty regular so I'm
sure all is OK w/the babies. Old Lyme nest, they are branching and will be
flying any day now. Buzz, AJ and Hank are on standby and will let us know when
they fly the coop! East Haddam, we have been regularly seeing mom and dad on a
tree near the nest, so, definitely still babies there. We saw the first and only
baby from there on July 4th last year.
Adventure: We stability tested today (June 30) for 60 passengers!Yeah!! We
are very exciting! Now, to work bit by bit for our COI (Coast Guard Certificate
of Inspection), hopefully in September and then very, very intimate charters! We
will probably do VIP Eagle Cruises this year.

Check out this

video of an immature eagle attacking two young eaglets in a nest in
California. We are quite certain that this is what happened to our Nott Island
eaglets last year!
